What does a DIT do?

The Digital Imaging Technician plays a key role in the visual and technical workflow on set. Working alongside the Director of Photography and post-production, the DIT protects the visual intent from capture through delivery while safeguarding the original camera data.

Our mobile setup combines a fully equipped DIT bus with a flexible Magliner system. The bus operates as a mobile digital lab for color grading, data management, backup, and monitoring, with a 65-inch OLED display in a controlled environment for rushes review and look approval.

Production workflow

Technical continuity at every stage

Pre-production

Validate the cinematographer’s visual concept across production and post-production workflows
Plan the technical workflow with the post-production team
Test camera settings, recording formats, LUTs, and visual concepts
Define data structures, naming conventions, and media-handling procedures
Calibrate monitors and color-critical tools
Develop looks, LUTs, and visual references with the cinematographer
Define the color pipeline from camera acquisition through final delivery
Prepare a secure, scalable backup strategy for the production

On-set production

Monitor image quality and perform technical QC in real time
Apply LUTs and support camera settings around the intended look
Create secure, checksum-verified backups of original camera media
Coordinate with the camera team and video operator on monitoring and setup changes
Maintain the technical bridge between camera and post-production
Grade dailies on set to preserve visual continuity and creative intent

Post-production handoff

Organize and deliver camera media, metadata, looks, and reports
Create viewing copies and graded dailies where required
Generate proxy files for editorial and client-review workflows
Document all backups and complete a secure, verifiable handoff

Data archival & long-term security

Create verified archival backups using LTO-6 or LTO-8 media
Preserve original camera data, metadata, reports, and project assets for future access
Use checksum verification and multiple redundancy layers to protect data integrity

Creative intent, technically protected

Whether the DIT station is beside the camera or positioned near set for additional space and performance, the production retains direct access to verified backups, look development, grading, and monitoring without interrupting creative flow.

Our workflow follows professional guidance from the BVK and the Austrian Association of Cinematographers, supporting technical integrity and visual consistency throughout production.
